Newsletters
Our newsletters are our most important tool for communication and feedback. The number of subscribers directly relates to our clout both within the space elevator community, with politicians, and with the world at large. That clout builds the social/political leg, and paves the way for building the legal leg of the four pillars.
Promotion
- Contact other members of the space and science bloggers and/or companies (and any others that might be interested) to see if they will promote our newsletter signup on their web site (or other media outlet).
- Provide a method for those interested parties to generate their own signup form, allowing for source tracking.
General
- Get input from more writers for the general newsletter.
- Make weekly calls/emails to have an up-to-date overview of the month’s activities
- Write the newsletter
- Proofread the newsletter
- Translate the newsletter to other languages
- Post the newsletter to the Wiki
Art
At this time, Nyein Aung - our very talented artist, is away at college in Australia. His busy schedule prevents his writing his monthly newsletter.
- Come up with a plan on what to do during Nyein’s absence
Contests
The contest responses started out well, but quickly died off. We want to continue this newsletter. We need to find out why people aren’t participating and address that problem.
Technical
- The ability to get technical papers for posting on time has been difficult at best. We need more technical authors to be able to create a backlog
- Identify students that are studying topics of interest to the LiftPort Space Elevator and contact them about publishing their research.
- Follow up with those researchers on a regular basis.
Web Site
The LiftPort web site is one of the most important assets for promoting the LiftPort Space Elevator. The priorities for the web site are:
- Maintain top 10 google rankings
- Provide a method of feedback and collaboration between the space elevator community and the LiftPort Companies
- Promote the LiftPort Space Elevator project
- Provide a method of communication from the LiftPort staff to the space elevator community
- Produce revenue

Forums
Speaking
Speaking engagements are a great way to directly spread the message about the LiftPort Space Elevator project and get immediate feedback. Speaking also gives us a chance to directly market our products.
Scheduling
- Frank Smith has done a lot to handle this with the LiftPort Ambassador program. To schedule a speaker, or become an ambassador, please visit that web site.
- To have a member of the LiftPort senior staff speak, contact events@liftport.com
- Schedule more speaking engagements.
- Find additional ways to monetize speaking engagements.
Outpost
- Make clicking into main store more intuitive on right side module
Marketing
Products
Outside Media
Identify outside media assets that can promote the LiftPort Space Elevator or other LiftPort branded products. Develop content for and promote those assets. Identify methods of monetizing those assets.
Photo Sharing
Flickr
Flickr is probably the most widely known photo sharing service. Another service called Zooomr offers some more advanced features such as selling photos. However, there is currently no way to copy photos (with titles, descriptions, tags, etc.) from Flickr to Zooomr. Such a tool would be useful.
- Put photos on Zooomr
- Add comments to flickr photos with links that could benefit liftport financially
Video Sharing
Tim Chemacki has volunteered to lead this effort.
- Get videos from Michael Laine
- Edit/render videos as necessary
- Add liftport.com watermark
- Post to video sharing sites
- Discuss each video with Michael Laine
- Write up detailed descriptions for each video
- Add descriptions for each video to sites
- Update tags for each video
- Review and “favorite” related videos by other users
- Track video views and other metrics
- Get permissions to use any videos not “owned” by LiftPort
vSocial
vSocial is a video sharing service with a few features unavailable on YouTube such as branding for players, ability to make money through ads, and the ability to pull feeds from Flickr, Twitter, etc. Some videos have been added, but the descriptions are not complete.
Need to create convert vSocial account to a commercial one to begin inserting ads. Initial attempts were unsuccessful. Currently waiting to hear from vSocial in response to support request.
YouTube
YouTube is the most well-known video sharing service. Some videos have been added, but the descriptions are not complete.
Google Video
Although Google owns YouTube, it also has its own separate video service. After adding videos to YouTube, we will also add them to Google Video. Some videos have been added, but the descriptions are not complete.
Ustream.tv
Ustream.tv provides the ability to stream live video as well as record live streams for later playback. This service needs to be further investigated.
Micro-blog
MySpace
Second Life
Second Life is a virtual world in which you can build things for others to visit and experience. Justin Schneider has volunteered to manage this project. If you are interested, tell Justin in the forum thread.
